Crochet Pom Pom Beanie

FREE crochet pattern


It's beanie season here and I love it!  This is quick and easy pattern using gradient yarn which make it nice and trendy.

Size: S/M, teens

Yarn: Red Heart Melange, color 00002

Hook: hook nb. 4 for band and hook nb. 5 for body

Others: pom and yarn needle, scissors

Band:

  • chain 11
  • row 1 - SC in the 2nd CH from the hook. SC in each ST across. CH 1. turn
  • rows 2-62: SC in first ST. SC in BLO of each ST until one ST remains. SC in the last ST. CH 1. Turn. 
  • when your band reaches the correct size, bring the ends of the band together and SLST together. Turn inside out so that the seam is facing the inside of the band
  • do not break yarn and continue with the body

Body of the beanie:

we do not turn the work at the end of the row unless explicitly stated  

* the chain at the beginning of the row does not count as the first stitch

  • row 1 - CH 2, HDC around the band (62) if your band, join with a SLST to the top of the starting chain
  • row 2 - CH 2, HDC in the 3rd loop of each ST. Join with a SLST to starting chain
  • row 3 - CH 1, SC in the 3rd loop of each ST. Join with a SLST to starting chain, turn
  • row 4 - CH 3, puff, skip ST, 31 puffs in row, turn
  • puff - yarn over and insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and insert hook into same stitch again, pull up another loop, until you have 5 loops on your hook, Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on your hook, CH 1
  • row 5 - CH 2, make 2 HDC in gap between puffs (62)
  • row 6 - CH 2, HDC in the 3rd loop of each ST, join with a SLST to starting chain
  • row 7 - CH 1, SC in the 3rd loop of each ST, join with a SLST to starting chain
  • row 8 - CH 1, SC, DC, SC, DC ... repeat, join with a SLST to starting chain
  • row 9 - CH 3- DC, SC, DC, SC ... repeat, join with a SLST to starting chain
  • row 10 - CH 2, HDC in each ST, join with a SLST to the top of the starting chain
  • row 11 - CH 2, HDC in the 3rd loop of each ST, join with a SLST to starting chain
  • row 12 - CH 1, SC in the 3rd loop of each ST, join with a SLST to starting chain, turn 
  • row 13 - CH 3, puff, skip ST, 31 puffs in row, turn
  • row 14 - CH 2, make 2 HDC in gap between puffs
  • row 15 - CH 2, HDC in the 3rd loop of each ST, join with a SLST to starting chain
  • beginning of decrease rounds
  • row 16 - CH 1, SC in the 3rd loop of the next 3 STS. HDCTOG in the 3rd loop of the next 2 STS, repeat, join with a SLST to the top of beginning chain
  • If you have a stitch or two left at the end of the row, simply SC in the 3rd loop of them. 
  • row 17 - CH 1, SC, DC, SC, DC ... repeat, join with a SLST to starting chain
  • row 18 - CH 3- DC, SC, DC, SC ... repeat, join with a SLST to starting chain
  • row 19 - CH 2, HDC in the next 3 STS. HDCTOG in the next 2 STS, repeat, join with a SLST to the top of beginning chain 
  • row 20 - CH 2, HDC in the 3rd loop of the next 3 STS. HDCTOG in the 3rd loop of the next 2 STS, repeat, join with a SLST to the top of beginning chain 
  • row 21 - CH 1, SC in the 3rd loop of the next 3 STS. SCTOG in the 3rd loop of the next 2 STS, repeat, join with a SLST to the top of beginning chain 
  • row 22 - CH 1, SC in the next 2 STS. SCTOG in the next 2 STS, repeat, join with a SLST to the top of beginning chain 
  • row 23 - CH 1, SC in the next ST. SCTOG in the next 2 STS, repeat, join with a SLST to the top of beginning chain
  • row 24 - CH 1, SCTOG in next 2 STS, repeat, if you get to the end the row and have a stitch left, simply SC in it, join with a SLST to the beginning chain
  • fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew the top shut. Using your yarn needle, weave the tail through every other stitch of row 24. Pull tight to close and tie off
  • attach a pom
